Tennis Court Dimensions and Layout
A standard tennis court measures 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles, and a singles-only court is 78 feet long and 27 feet wide. To play comfortably and safely, the full site needs a total area of at least 60 feet by 120 feet, which leaves room for a run-back behind each baseline and space along the sidelines. Outdoor courts also need a fenced backstop area of roughly 3 to 10 feet around the playing surface. We orient the court's long axis north to south to keep the sun out of players' eyes, and we build to USTA, ITF, and American Sports Builders Association guidelines so the finished court meets regulation.
