## Backyard Tennis Court Construction

As tennis enthusiasts ourselves, we understand the dream of having a private court in your backyard. We are honored when clients trust us to bring that vision to life. A professionally built tennis court enhances property value and creates a stunning centerpiece for your home. We focus on durable construction and precision craftsmanship to ensure your court delivers lasting performance for decades.

## Long-Lasting Custom Tennis Courts

At On Point Court Surfacing, we build every tennis court on a reinforced post-tension concrete slab engineered for lasting performance in the harsh Las Vegas sun. This advanced construction method significantly reduces cracking, enhances stability, and creates an ideal foundation for consistent ball bounce and player movement. Whether it is a private backyard court in Henderson or a multi-court HOA facility in Las Vegas, we combine structural integrity with custom acrylic finishes and USTA-compliant striping to deliver a professional-grade surface that performs beautifully for decades.

## Tennis Court Dimensions and Layout

A standard tennis court measures 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles, and a singles-only court is 78 feet long and 27 feet wide. To play comfortably and safely, the full site needs a total area of at least 60 feet by 120 feet, which leaves room for a run-back behind each baseline and space along the sidelines. Outdoor courts also need a fenced backstop area of roughly 3 to 10 feet around the playing surface. We orient the court's long axis north to south to keep the sun out of players' eyes, and we build to USTA, ITF, and American Sports Builders Association guidelines so the finished court meets regulation.

**Full court (doubles):** 78 ft by 36 ft

**Singles court:** 78 ft by 27 ft

**Recommended total area:** 60 ft by 120 ft

**Perimeter / backstop:** 3 to 10 ft

**Orientation:** North to south

**Built to standard:** USTA, ITF, ASBA

## How We Build a Tennis Court: Foundation, Drainage, and Site Prep

A tennis court is only as good as what sits beneath it. Las Vegas soil needs proper excavation and compaction before anything is poured, and the finished court needs a slope of around 1 percent so water runs off instead of pooling. Good drainage, both the court slope and perimeter drainage, is what prevents the cracks and surface degradation that shorten a court's life. We build on a reinforced post-tension concrete slab, the option most trusted in hot climates because it minimizes cracking and stands up to the thermal expansion our summers demand. Because a tennis court build in Las Vegas requires building and grading permits along with zoning and safety compliance, we handle the permitting from the start so nothing stalls your project.

## Choosing Your Court Surface

For tennis in the Las Vegas climate, we build two surfaces: an acrylic hard court and a cushioned acrylic court. Both hold up to desert heat and UV, they differ in feel and price.

![Acrylic hard court tennis surface in Las Vegas, NV](https://onpointcourtsurfacing.com/_astro/tennis-court-resurfacing-las-vegas-after._OvJOVBk_ZbG2gQ.webp)

### Acrylic hard court

The most popular tennis surface in Las Vegas. Several thin layers of pigmented acrylic with silica sand for grip give you a firm, true bounce, custom color, and low upkeep. It handles heat and UV better than any other surface, which is why most local courts are acrylic.

![Cushioned acrylic tennis court in Las Vegas, NV](https://onpointcourtsurfacing.com/_astro/tennis-court-construction-backyard-after.BlGzzJxF_Z1eCXyc.webp)

### Cushioned acrylic

An acrylic court with a resilient, liquid-applied cushion layer built in before the color coats. It is easier on knees, ankles, and backs, a favorite for players who are on the court often, with the same heat and UV resistance as a standard hard court.

Most Las Vegas courts are standard acrylic hard courts, the surface that best balances looks, playability, and low maintenance. Choose a cushioned court when comfort matters. Curious about clay, grass, turf, and the rest, and why they do not belong in the desert? ## Resurfacing, Repair, and Court Conversions

### Resurface

A full acrylic resurface brings color, texture, and crisp lines back to a sound slab and keeps an aging court playing true. It is the most cost-effective way to refresh a court that is still structurally solid.

### Crack repair

We fill and feather cracks with court-specific materials and blend them under a fresh coat. On a slab that keeps moving, we will tell you honestly whether a repair will hold or whether a rebuild is the smarter spend.

### Court conversions

Tennis courts convert beautifully. We can add pickleball lines, or reconfigure a single tennis court into multiple pickleball courts, so your space works for more players.

Already have a court? See [tennis court resurfacing](https://onpointcourtsurfacing.com/tennis-court-resurfacing) for what a resurface costs, when yours is due, and what coating will not fix. Adding pickleball to a tennis court is the most common conversion we do; see [court line striping](https://onpointcourtsurfacing.com/court-line-striping) for how blended and contrast layouts work.

## Fencing and Lighting

### Fencing

High-quality fencing keeps tennis balls contained during play and frames the court. Outdoor courts need a backstop area of roughly 3 to 10 feet, fenced with rust-resistant materials made for the local climate.

### Lighting

For night play, we design lighting that covers the surface evenly without glaring into neighboring yards. A full tennis court is typically lit by eight poles set around 16 to 20 feet high, placed for balanced, shadow-free coverage.

## Tennis Court Builders for Homes, Clubs, Schools, and Parks

From a single backyard court to full sports facilities, we take on residential and commercial projects across the valley. That includes private residential communities and HOAs, clubs, schools, parks, and commercial properties, single court or multi-court. For schools and nonprofits, USTA grants can help fund a new court, and we are glad to plan a build around that funding. Whatever the site, you get the same quality craftsmanship and durable construction, backed by a free estimate and a clear written quote.
