A full-size basketball court measures 94 feet by 50 feet, the same size used for NBA and NCAA play. For most backyards, a half-court is the practical and popular choice, giving you room for real games without taking over the yard. Court size is the single biggest driver of cost, so we size the court to your space, your game, and your budget. The rim sits at a regulation 10 feet, with the free-throw line 15 feet from the backboard. Before starting construction, we handle site preparation: clearing, leveling, and excavating the ground to the right depth, then installing a compacted base layer that gives you a flat, level surface. A poured concrete slab can top 150 degrees in a Las Vegas summer, so we build on an engineered, reinforced concrete sub-base using post-tension methods that need roughly 28 days to cure fully and resist the cracking that heat and settling cause. Proper grading and drainage are critical in an arid climate: without them, the intense rainstorms we do get can pool on the surface and erode the foundation over time. We prefer concrete over asphalt because it holds up far better in high temperatures. Nevada law requires a licensed contractor for this work, and most projects need permits and must respect local zoning setbacks. On Point is fully licensed, and we handle the permitting and code compliance so your project never stalls. ## Court Surfaces and Materials An outdoor basketball court is the popular choice in Las Vegas, valued for accessibility and affordability, and outdoor construction focuses on weather-resistant materials that take direct sun, heat, and UV. Put that same surface under a roof or inside a covered structure and it becomes an indoor court, protected from weather and playable year round. Either way, the surface material decides long-term performance, so it has to match how and where you play. Here is how the main surface types compare. ### Concrete with acrylic coating The most durable choice for Las Vegas. A concrete court lasts 15 to 20 years with minimal maintenance beyond cleaning, and a high-quality, weather-resistant acrylic coating adds UV resistance, better traction, and comfort underfoot. This is our most recommended build. ### Asphalt Lower upfront cost, but it can develop cracks, needs sealing, and typically lasts 10 to 15 years with resurfacing every 5 to 10 years. More regular upkeep over the long run. ### Modular tiles / synthetic Interlocking tiles offer excellent shock absorption and drainage, which suits high-heat environments, and can exceed 20 years with easy tile replacement. A modern solution that is great for multi-use courts and quicker installs. ### Custom finish Turn any court into a sport court or multi-purpose court with multi-sport lines, custom designs, logos, and color blocking, for a court that is truly yours. For most Las Vegas courts we recommend a reinforced concrete slab finished with weather-resistant acrylic paint and crisp court lines, for the best balance of durability, player safety, and low maintenance.
